Letter from Ayanna Wright:

“A high schoolers senior year is a very stressful time. Between the job of being a student with regular classes as well as clubs, activities, sports and other extracurriculars; the process of applying to colleges, writing essays, taking the SATs as well as applying for scholarships can all feel like a second job.”

“My senior year was the most stressful of all of my four years in high school. Some of the stress was relieved once I got accepted into my first choice school, but that brought on another stressor: paying for it. My top choice school was out of state and I wasn’t sure how my family and I would be able to pay for all of it. Once I found out that I was chosen as one of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women’s scholarship recipients I was ecstatic; I felt as though all of my hard work had paid of. In addition to the immense gratitude I felt, I was also overcome with enormous relief.”

“Having been awarded this scholarship means that I will be able to focus on what is really important, school, and not finances. It also makes me feel as though all of the hard work I did the past four years in high school is not only being recognized, but awarded as well. There are no words that can truly express how grateful I am.”

“I know you asked for about four sentences and I know this is much longer, I apologize for that. If you need to cut out part of it I understand. I hope my testimonial makes it in in time and that my headshot is good as well.”

All the best,
